Sunday, May 11, 2014, it is 5am, Paris wakes ... We wake up, but in Versoix, not Paris. The bags are ready. We leave for 12 days eastward. En route to the capital of the
Czech Republic: Prague!
Before continuing, here is the usual video :
So begins our journey in Geneva, it is 6am, there are few people at this hour (especially on a Sunday!), passing security and searches are faster. Each with her
purse / camera bags and a backpack. Here we are in the waiting room, the aircraft is already there, the business class ships first. Our aircraft was an Airbus A319
(the same plane as for the report in USA,
to go from Toulouse to London and back! ) Swiss and we are placed to the tail of the aircraft, Amandine window seat next to me and. 7:40: take off! Nose first and ass of the
aircraft after. 740km in 1:05 of flight, the trip will be fast enough. We even reach the height of 38'000ft (11'582km). And always this ocean of white completely flat when
flying above the clouds ... it's still beautiful.
A short time after, we arrive over our destination, we can see the river Vltava and the Prague castle.
It is 9:15 when we finally set foot on the ground Prague . Here we go , let's go for almost two weeks alone dropped almost unknown in a country with a language that we don't know anything. Luckily I still had
to cope English and knowledge that already Amandine with its previous trip here. For everything else... we managed as we could.
First thing to do , join the hostel : for that, we need a map of the network of public transport in the city and tickets ( 310 CZK , about 12.5 € for a ticket for all three days Prague). This done, we take a bus
and then take tram No. 1. And then... it's an adventure, almost a trip back in time ! We take a tram Tatra T3SU from 1962, it looks really like a ''Russian equipment from the Cold War'' (normal you say... ) with
its floor to nearly 80cm above the ground, its pantographs almost as high as the tram itself and 23 seats sheet heated by hot air for the winter. 2/3 of the trams of the city are also of this ilk (and their
beautiful cream and red livery ).
We arrived at the hostel, drop bags in a corner. The room was not ready before 5 hours, we go for a first discovery walk, quickly, around and for our evening meal. A first glimpse of buildings sets the tone :
there are all kinds : pre-Romanesque, Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Rococo, Art Nouveau, Cubism, and what I call like this, Soviet. Here, every building is decorated, ornate, engraved, carved, painted in a way
and in a different color. What do the happiness to (or turning crazy) an architect.
There are still some factories's towers left...
... who are watching over the marathonians. This is indeed the international Prague Half Marathon (Volkswagen Prague Marathon), 42.2km long, about 2,300 participants. That is, each year, an
important event for runners worldwide.
A little further, a stand distributes cups water, juice, orange slices and sponges soaked in cool water to the participants rushing to get rid of once finished. All under the weary eyes of what seems to be an official photographer of the event.
After our tour and continued to be passed through a mini-market to get some business room, we return wallow on the seats of the inn until our room was ready, which was not long. We are on the 2nd floor, room 212, with bath, wc, 4 cupboards, 4 beds (2 bunk and
two normal), and a desk. All in shades of red furniture and 25% and 65% gray for the walls :
The room is for 4 but We will only be both at once, we put our stuff stored in cabinets, and we draw plans visits the next day. Opening the curtains, the view here is that we can see, in environments
afternoon and evening with the sun dyed buildings flamboyant colors:
To end this day, for dinner, we do not we will break the head and a simple sandwich with tap water will be enough. For my part, it's pipi (pee in french, it's a joke) sandwich (ie, that I assure you: it is a sandwich chicken nuggets and curry chutney, very good by the
way.) 1.80 € (45 CZK). Here the prices for food are really low compared to France or Switzerland ! But I will come back to it later.
Meanwhile, it is time to sleep, a good day ahead of us tomorrow with the discovery of a typical dish of Prague, a ''sinken-ship-building'' cast and other things.
