Wednesday, March 21, 2012: It's in the rain that we visit today Rochefort-en-terre, Redon, La Gacilly and menhirs of Monteneuf. No video this time either.
Firstly Rochefort-en-terre, with its collegiate church Notre-Dame-de-la-Tronchaye. This church architecture rather squat as you can see on the pictures :
The church home wandering souls and numbed by the cold and rain. We are not the only ones to enter for shelter. A cat and we have the opportunity to be cuddled.
While my friend the cat and asked myself coaxing, I want to visit a little church :
The rain finally stopped, we go, and always accompanied by the cat, I took a few photos with beautifully decorated door of an old house in the village.
Then, a small passage by Redon (Y'a 'core 10 filles dans l'bourg de R'don... ahem forgiveness, a Breton song) where we visit the abbey of Saint-Sauveur.
Feature of the building: it is in 2 parts. The nave and tower cross and choir are Romanesque tower and facade are in the Gothic style. The separation is even
more pronounced due to a fire in 1780, the two parts of the buildings are separated by a transition from gravel. Inside, we can see a particularly beautiful
stained glass which traces the genealogy heraldry:
By doing a little tour of Redon, I even found a stone for the pilgrims of Saint Jacques de Compostela!
After lunch, visit to La Gacilly for Yves Rocher. No luck, no visitation before the heyday ... Too bad, a little walk around. And some long exposures (it was long!) : By doing a little tour of Redon, I even found a stone for the pilgrims of Saint Jacques de Compostela!
Last stop of the day: the megalithic stones of Straight to Monteneuf. This site is the second most important site (after Carnac) megaliths (rocks erected
in rows) and it dates from 5000 years ago, in the Neolithic. There are a lot of restoration had to do because of the almost complete destruction of the site
in the first century at the request of the religious authorities. It is from 1989 that the site was renovated, it was discovered 6 lines of menhirs, the
largest weighing 38 tons! Here the Koala-Jones :
Here is a panoramic alignments with the koala in the center :
The place is also home Archéosite Monteneuf with a reconstructed village of Gallic utilisants site with alignments. The houses are made the same way as before, in Torchi
with a garden showing plants cultivated village life, etc...
And here a scenic place for discussion of the village where people gather to discuss issues and management of the village where the now animators explain how the site is functionning
and its known history.
That's all for today. Tomorrow we are going back in time in search of the Arthurian legends.
