Saturday, March 17, 2012: a day with a time warp because we will find ourselves projected in a movie for a while.
Abbord of all, rain ... Josselin we are to see the Basilica of Our Lady of Bramble. We can see the beams above the Nef (something I find unusual):
As you can see in the video ... it rains quite well. Fortunately, resuming the road rain calms and finished to a halt, but the sky is always gray. Suddenly a time warp
opens before us and here we are thrown into the movie Lord of the Rings, we are at Rohan! We do not come across Rohirrim horsemen, neither the king Theoden or his
nephew Eomer. However we do see the sign announcing our arrival at this place:
While Koala Jones strikes a pose on the panel, I will briefly present the Nantes Brest canal that runs behind.
The Nantes-Brest canal is a canal from Nantes and empties into the Atlantic Ocean in Brest (reallyyyy ?). Construction began in 1803 and was completed 55 years later. It took
at least that to build this canal 364km (but with only 73km journey artificial (not natural watercourse)) with 238 locks (an all around 1.5km, hello density ...). With these
locks can be traced back (and down) while the channel by boat.
Back on the road, here we are ... Napoléonville forgiveness, Pontivy its modern name. There's a party medieval castle of Rohan but unfortunately it is a private party.
Damage. Here still a walk outside the castle. You should know that Pontivy has known many names. In chronological order we have: Pond ivy, Pontivy, Napoleonville (Bourbonville),
Pontivy, Napoleonville and finally Pontivy again. It seems a bit of a game of ping pong ...
The castle of Rohan was built in the fifteenth century under Jean II de Rohan. The walls are 20m high and the moat was never filled with water. The castle consisted of four towers topped with
battlements in pepper but it is now 2. It is listed as a historical monument since 1953.
The day will end quietly in front of a roaring log fire and eating kouignettes (mini-kouignamann) at various fourages before going to sleep.
