Monday, August 20, 2012: Today we are going in the savannah on a safari!
Direction the African Reserve of Sigean. It is 300 hectares that in 1974 the Reserve opens its doors to visitors. With more than 3,800 animals in semi-freedom distributed in 170 species.
The reserve has three distinct parts: the first is a circuit that is done by car among animals. The second is a park like usual with zoo enclosure. The third
and last part is a large lake with a small island that houses among others the Camargue flamingos, storks, gray pelicans and a large amount of marine species
as well as various other birds such as the sacred Ibis of Egypt. In the latter part of the reserve, the birds are free to come and go as they please.
Flamingos for example use the park as a stopover. Same for storks.
7.5km circuit car is also divided into several parts, lions, bears, giraffes and antelopes would not go all together. We begin with the visit of the African
bush park where you can see Impalas, springbok and other antelope and ostriches very curious who do not hesitate to come knocking on the window of the car or
to do the circulation.
After a traffic jam created by two ostriches in the middle of the road, we are in the territory of black bears (they must be hot with their big fur and heat).
Then, we are among the kings of the savannah : the Lions. All resting in the shade on a small hill.
After the part'' predators'', we're back with more peaceful animals ... normally. Giraffes with a small family of zebras, warthogs (Pumba! Gruik!), Wildebeest and hidden away a
white rhinoceros and again ostriches.
The driving tour is over, it's time to walking, ut befor, it's time to eat ! It begins with the african elephant enclosure, the largest land animal:
A little further on is a camel that we currently perceive to rest too.
After seeing Pumba, we come across Timon, meerkats (decidedly, it is nap time for animals):
With wooden walkways, we pass over the paddocks of Cheetah and Wild Dogs, all sleeping.
All these animals are drowsy because of the heat, but it is who benefits. Crocodiles for example, here is one currently swimming slowly while an
aigrette observed from the shore:
We have arrived at the pond of Ca with all birds. Pelicans, Storks, Flamingos, are present in large quantities among a lot of other species of birds.
And a panoramic island flamingos :
The last enclosure are visited, the day is hot and went 16h. It is with a smile that we can observe Vietnamese baby pigs (GRUIIIIKKKKKK).
When leaving the car to after a long day with the animals under a bright sun, we cross oustitis having fun at the park entrance.
After passing through the sandy beach in Gruissan (near Sigean), we return to Port-Barcarès and so ends the second day of reporting.
