Tuesday, October 15, the last day on U.S. soil. We leave for the airport at around 13h, by then, it's free neighborhood. Several people in the group just want to rest this
morning. Some go for a ride into town with the bus (an unplanned output in the program, so, it took tinker something). And finally, some go out to visit San Francisco in their own way.
This is our case, and as of 7:15 am, after having swallowed breakfast, we go, walk in the direction of downtown and other wonders of the city. First destination: Lombard street.
On the way, we walk quietly, the city is quiet and very Victorian architecture (here it this famous Victorian architecture in San Francisco!).
The sky is blue, it's nice and warm. The atmosphere is calm, relaxed, we quietly enjoying walking. We do not feel stress as in other cities, people are friendly and smiling. On the way, I do some macro photos
After assembled and down the streets to get there, we are at Lombard Street. The crookedest street in USA (and possibly the world ...). On a slope of 27% (about 20 °), the road goes to 16% with 8 laces brick pavers that make up this part of the street. Dating from 1922, it could be used in both directions, since 2001, it is used more
than descent. The street, even if it is exposed to wind, is lined with beautiful flowered houses (one white house with a huge purple bougainvillea)
At the top of the street, there is a cablecar stop for tourists (the rise of Lombard street is quite level sports ...) and here are just a happening, with Alcatraz Island in the background, in the Bay of San Francisco:
Lombard Street: viewed ! Now let's see Downtown San Francisco, by the way, the first Chinese Baptist Church:
We pass in front of other Victorian houses ...
...before arriving at Downtown. Seen here down the street, at the bottom.
We walk, we'll see a bar Nespresso shop, eat a sandwich at Subway, and, like in the movies, we see smoke coming out of manholes!
A small photo to show another part of the public transportation in San Francisco, in ancient and more recent:
And then it's time ... back to the hotel, baggage and everyone on the bus is finished. We checks at the airport, Marc with us, it must fly too, but for Los Angeles, not in France. He said goodbye
to each of us and I thank him for everything he has done for us during these 10 days, it was really a great guide for me. (Mark, if you ever read this, know that the next time I come to the USA,
I'll call you as a guide!).
We start this time in the opposite direction to the path of the sun, hours catching up on lost during the move. This time I sleep a little, rocked by turbulence. After the end of the short night,
I'm enjoying the sunrise over the clouds below me:
Here are a few more hours and we in London. Taking a break to eat and take the next plane to Toulouse. After about 14 hours of flight, we here in Toulouse. More than a bus to Brive and that's
the end of the trip. We then arrive as night fell. Of these 10 days spent on the other side of the Earth, we are left with only memories, trinkets and content of our maps devices and our
notebooks. Question distances encrypted, we traveled in 21'869km aircraft 4'040km bus, boat 16km and 25km from 20 feet.
End of the journey and the end of the story, I would like to thank Philippe and APCH and Dreams Travel to Brive for organizing the trip. I thank Marc for everything he has given us, whether
information, advice or simple discussions. Mike thank you for being our driver for thousands of kilometers.
Also thank you to my aunt, Josiane, without whom I could never pull this off.
